Our Murphys Firewise Community is comprised of 4 Zones: West and East Murphys, Douglas Flat and Vallecito. We are taking proactive steps to reduce wildfire risk, often through a collaborative effort involving residents, local fire departments, and other experts. These communities work together to implement safety measures, improve wildfire preparedness, and enhance their ability to withstand potential wildfires.

Key Features of a Firewise Community

Collaboration and Community Involvement:

Firewise communities prioritize working together, with residents, homeowner associations, and local authorities collaborating to identify risks and implement solutions.

Wildfire Risk Assessment:

These communities conduct assessments to understand their specific wildfire risks, considering factors like vegetation, topography, and climate.

Defensible Space Creation:

Firewise communities emphasize creating defensible space around homes, which involves clearing vegetation and reducing potential fuel sources that could ignite a fire.

Home Hardening:

Residents may also take steps to harden their homes, such as installing fire-resistant roofing, upgrading siding, and ensuring proper ventilation.

Education and Awareness:

Firewise communities often focus on educating residents about wildfire risks, prevention measures, and emergency preparedness.

Community Action Plans:

Firewise communities develop and maintain action plans that outline specific steps to be taken to reduce wildfire risk, including maintenance schedules and emergency protocols.
